Tools and Hardware Reviews of Dremel 6800-01 Trio Rotary Tool KitCustomer Review: Dremel Trio Summary: 5 Stars
After reading reviews on Amazon, I almost took my Dremel Trio back because I thought maybe that I wasn't getting a good tool that I could use to do wood working. But after reading and studying the reviews a little closer, I came to the conclusion that most people giving negative review either didn't know how to use power tools, didn't read instructions or were trying to make the Dremel Trio to be something it wasn't. I read quite a few reviews that indicated that the power in the dremel was a problem and it burned wood every time that it was used to cut thicker wood. On my inital use, I set it up to cut a 3/4 inch board to see how it cut the board, even though Dremel clearly states that the maximum cutting with is 1/2 inch board. It doesn't cut wood as fast as my table saw, but then again it isn't a table saw. I found that it made a very clean cut and was easy to guide free handed with out burning the wood. I can only assume that in cases that people have broke their bits or burnt their wood that they were trying to cut the wood too fast or too slow. I can say that I'm not all that impressed with the plunging part of the Dremel Trio and would agree that it would have been better with springs and might have been nice to have a lockdown button to lock with the spring, but it is does work fine without a spring. I keep hearing the arguement that it's a mini-underpowered router. I disagree. I think it has enough power to do the job that it was indented for. It has 2 AMPs just like the better Dremels, and as for the router part. Well, I own two routers and I use them to route wood; both have an 1/4 shank. My rotary dremel, not the TRIO, drills hold in wood, clean, scraps and minor cutting; it has a a 1/8 shank. My TRIO has a purpose that isn't like either my router or rotary dremel and requires a 3/16 shank; it cuts smaller boards, is handy little tool - key word being little - and isn't a high end power tool. My opinion is that the TRIO has a purpose that my other tools aren't specificly designed for and it serves it's purpose.
